Obituary: Noel Dalzell 1931-2011

Noel Dalzell, founder of Dalzell's of Markethill

Noel Dalzell

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our founder, Mr Noel Dalzell, through a long illness. Noel and his late wife Evelyn established Dalzell’s of Markethill in 1956 as a household furnisher. From humble beginnings and through ample hard work, a keen mind and an innate ability to communicate with customers he laid the foundation for our continued success today as the largest independent home appliance retailer in Northern Ireland.

Noel will be sorely missed by his many friends and close family circle. The business continues as it has done since Noel’s retirement in the ever competent hands of his son Trevor.

As a mark of respect we at Dalzell’s of Markethill will be closed on Monday 24th October for Noel’s funeral. We will reopen on Tuesday 25th October. If you wish to leave some of your memories of Noel please leave them in the comments section here or on our Facebook Page.

If you have any requirement in the meantime please do not hesitate to email us: sales@armaghelectrical.com or shop online.

Appliance Trade

Noel was widely known within the business community in Northern Ireland. As an entrepreneur he brought a number of premium appliance brands including Smeg to Ireland for the first time more than 40 years ago as their sole distributor. In later years he also added Servis, Creda, Burco and Electrolux to this network.

Local Football

Throughout his years in business Noel was also a keen supporter of local football and proudly served as Club President of both Lisburn Distillery and Portadown Football Club for many years, there he enjoyed a great deal of domestic success and European adventures. He had many friends in the game and was widely known throughout the country from junior to Premier League clubs.

Funeral

The funeral will leave Noel’s home at 1.30pm for a 2pm service at 1st Markethill Presbyterian Church. All are welcome, refreshments will be available afterwards in the Small Memorial Hall.

Noel appreciated your business and your visits. We hope he left you, as us, with many happy memories of him.
