Gas Safety Week<\/strong> is upon us again, the annual event highlights Gas Safety and the importance of taking care of the Gas Appliances<\/strong> in your home. Promoted by the Gas Safe Register<\/strong>, we at Dalzell’s of Markethill, as a responsible retailer fully support the campaign.<\/span><\/p>\n

Despite there being a good general awareness that gas appliances need to be safety checked annually\u00a043%<\/strong> of people don\u2019t do it and 10%<\/strong> have gas appliances which shockingly have never been checked (Gas Safety Week Research 2011).<\/span><\/p>\n

Gas Appliance Safety<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

Only\u00a0Gas Safe Registered Engineers<\/strong>\u00a0are\u00a0accredited\u00a0to Service, Fit or Repair Gas Appliances in the UK. It’s the law. For each piece of work they do in your home they will provide you with a Reassuring Certificate<\/strong>. A Gas\u00a0Engineers who is not registered is working illegally and possibly unsafely, as such they should be reported immediately!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Gas Safe Register estimate that there are a hard core of around 7,500 Illegal Gas Fitters<\/strong> operating across the UK and up to 250,000 Illegal Gas Jobs<\/strong> may be carried out each year (Gas Safe Register Research 2009). Always inspect you engineers Gas Safe Register ID Card before they begin to work.<\/span><\/p>\n

Every year thousands of people across the UK are unfortunately diagnosed with Carbon Monoxide Poisoning<\/strong>. It is a highly poisonous gas. You can\u2019t see it, taste it or smell it, but it can KILL quickly with no warning!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Apart from having your Gas Appliances checked annually by an accredited engineer a prudent measure for any home or business is to fit a Carbon Monoxide Detector<\/strong>. Costing less than \u00a320<\/strong>, these small devices will save lives!<\/span><\/p>\n
